India officially the republic of India is the seventh largest country by area and the second- most populous country with over 1.2 billion people. On 15th August 2012 India will celebrate its 66th independence day. 28 states with different languages, culture and religion forms a united nation which is called as India. The Independence Day of India is much more than commemorating the anniversary of India’s free statehood. It is a moment of celebration, a day to pay tribute to the martyrs because of whose struggle and sacrifice we are breathing an air of freedom. Each and every country has their different style of celebrating Independence Day so do India have, People fly kites on this day which entitles the free country. “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom," said Jawaharlal Nehru, one of the most important days in the history of the Indian nation. Independence Day is acknowledged as a national holiday in India. The preparations begin a month before Independence Day and the roads are given a larger-than-life appearance with ribbons and Indian flags. There are no parades or extravagant processions on Independence Day, but all over India, most institutions, both academic and governmental, hold a low-profile celebration in which the hoisting of the national flag is the key element. The Prime Minister at Lal quila, Delhi hoists the tricolour at the cordons of the Red Fort, which receives a salutation of 21 guns. The Independence Day fills everyone’s one heart with happiness and joy and also makes us recollect the sacrifice of freedom fighters who all paid blood and their life for FREEDOM.
